Final Fantasy is one of the greatest RPGs on the NES. However, it is one of the
toughest RPGs that was made for the Nintendo. Hopefully, this walkthrough will help
you complete the game.
Your first goal is to start a new party. My personal favorite is the classic party:
one fighter, one blackbelt, one white mage, and one black mage. It offers the greatest
balance and playability. Although I could go on about what party you should take for
an hour, trust me: take this party.
At any rate, you start outside of a town called Coneria. Go into the town and buy
the following:
Fighter: Rapier, chain armor
Blackbelt: wooden nunchucks, wooden armor
White Mage: Hammer, cloth armor
Black Mage: Dagger, cloth armor
If you want, you can talk to the people, but they don't usually give out vital
information.
Once you buy the equipment, (don't forget to equip it!) go outside of the town and
castle. Walk into the forest and start cracking some enemy heads. Rest when you get
low on HP.
When you earn up enough experience to reach level 2, go back into the town. Buy the
spells Fire and Cure, and spend the remaining money on cure potions. Make sure to
rest at the inn.
Are you ready to take on your first dungeon? Don't worry; its easier than you might
think. Walk northwest from Coneria, and you will find the ruined castle of the
dark knight, Garland. Go into the castle and walk straight up. You should be able to
find Garland easily. Talk to him, and he challenges you to a fight.
Garland is a fairly easy fight. Fight with your fighter and blackbelt, and use your
black mage to cast fire on Garland. Use your white mage to cast cure as needed.
After Garland takes about 100 points of damage, he'll die. Once you kill Garland,
walk up from his position. You'll find Princess Sara. Talk to her, and she will
warp you back to the throne room in Coneria. Talk to both her and the king. You will
recieve the lute (which is completely useless until extremely late in the game) and
a bridge will be built, linking you to the main continent.
Use all of your money to buy healing potions. If you're brave, go across the bridge
at level 2. If not, beat some experience out the imps and wolves in the Conerian forest
until you reach level three. When you're ready, go across the bridge and continue
eastward. You'll notice something very quickly; the enemies are much harder on the
other side of the bridge. Run from them if you can. Eventually, you'll reach the
pirate town of Provokda.
Well, that's it for now. Over the next week or so, I'll complete the FAQ.
